Size & Care
Hooman, “looks about right” is not a measurement. Here is how to choose for walks, dinner and the all-important nap.
Walk: harnesses, collars and leads
Measure your dog's neck and the widest part of their chest against the exact product's size chart. Check both the harness and collar measurements when choosing a matching set. Size labels vary between products.
Before every walk, check the fit, secure the buckles and inspect straps, stitching, clips and hardware. Choose the lead length and width for your dog and the intended use. Follow the product's fitting and care instructions.
Eat: dog bowls
Check the bowl's capacity, depth and width against your dog's usual portion and muzzle comfort. Check the material and stated cleaning method; do not assume every bowl is dishwasher safe. Clean after use and inspect for damage.
Sleep: dog beds
Measure your dog in their usual sleeping position and compare it with the usable sleeping area, not just the outside dimensions. Raised sides can reduce the inside space. Leave room to stretch and turn comfortably. I am firmly in favour of enough room for paws.
Washing and drying
I provide the fur. The care label provides the instructions. Follow the guidance for the exact item: a washable cover does not necessarily mean washable filling. Check temperature, drying method and removable parts. Let everything dry fully before use.
A little upkeep
Check for wear regularly and stop using damaged items. Walking gear, bowls and beds are not chew toys. Follow the product's instructions and supervise use where appropriate.
Missing a measurement? Ask my team before ordering. Nap-time surprises should be limited to who stole the sofa.
